The Ethiopian army is a national pride, an imminent force in defence of the sovereignty of Ethiopian state. Since 1995, the army has been given with one more role, a guardian of a revolutionary democratic government.
Since the onset of a reform in the army some two years back, its role as a last resort in defence of a revolutionary democratic government has faded away.
Whether the reform in the army has brought a real change to depoliticize its mission is what time will tell. But, the pillars of the reform process shall be disclosed to public.
